Just a wee note to all members that I am expecting to receive all your prints and projected images on Wednesday night (29th).
For projected images and prints please put them in the following directory structure on your pen drive so that they are easy to copy to my laptop.

\Member No\Print or \Proj\Image name. For example the projected image would look like this on your pen  e.g \Member 013\Proj\title_013_I_proj.jpg

One further note. When you are attaching prints to the mounting board make sure that the masking tape you are using is very sticky. I have had a problem with some prints becoming detached from the board (you know who you are).

By the way the example I mentioned in my first post relates to if it was me (member 013) I should have made it easier to read.

Remember the naming is as follows:

Title_Membership#_Class(A,I,B)_Print.jpg

Title_Membership#_Class(A,I,B)_Proj.jpg

Just an update on the entry for this appraisal,. I have delivered all the entries to Ian and he is definately going to have his hands full

Entries are:

                       Prints            Projected
Advanced            15                    12
Intermediate         23                    27
Beginner              17                    28
Total                   55                    67

Total entries of 122

Very good quality and can I say that I'm glad I'm not a beginner.

Well done everyone

Just like to say that I think, on reflection, that the use of projected images for the print sections did not work because the Ian was looking at the screen and not the image. He therefore made suggestions while valid for the digital image, had already been carried out on the printed image. Also i need exact copies of the printed image, for example without, copywrite before we can projects them.

Finally, I think the new display board is more than adequate to display the image. I think it worked really well with no reflections.

In reply I agree with Jim, but I feel that the problem with the projected print images was that Ian was stood in the wrong place and should, had been stood by the "PRINT STAND"  and made his remarks at the stand, looking as the print itself, and using his notes and the projected image should of been much smaller and away from the appraiser the whole idea of the projected print images is for those at the back of the room can see the images - I'm not sure about the name being projected (what do you think?) on the other hand I thought the evening went very well, although very tight for time, there were over 120 projection and I thought Ian did very well to get them done in under two hours., although we did not not have time to view the prints afterwards may be we have to look at cutting down the numbers from 3 to two entries, to give time to view the prints and discuss with the images with some of the author's, But lets not take anything away from the fact that some of the images were stunning . Thanks

I made the point last night, the projected image didn't work as in a lot of cases, the projected image differed from the print. I felt Ian was judging the projected image instead of the print itself. Please, this isn't anything against Ian, I wouldn't want to judge/appraise images by people I know. It's a format I hope we don't use again.

I thought the evening went very well, too. And, Ian did a great job.

I agree with Fred that the projected image should be much much smaller and that the appraiser should be positioned beside the print so that he/she is pointing at the print and the audience's attention is drawn to the print.

I was one of those at the other club's competition and loved their idea of projecting images of prints. Even in our relatively small room, it is difficult to see a print if you are sitting several rows back, so the projected image serves a vital purpose. However, it really does need to be the exact copy of the print to avoid confusion.

About reducing the number of images that each member submits, someone already mentioned that the first appraisal always attracts the most entries, so there may be fewer entries later in the year - it's a bit of a gamble.

I'd like to add my thanks to Ian for stepping forward to do the difficult job of appraising fellow members work.

Would it be possible for the projected entries (and perhaps the digital copies of the prints) to be uploaded to the MCCC Flickr group? I'd like to look at them all again as there were some excellent submissions there.

I guess it would work best if the member themselves submitted it to Flickr so that photographer can be identified but if the filename is retained the membership number is embedded in it.

Yeah have to say Ian done a good job with the amount of images he had to work through.

I think the projection of the prints is a great idea as it allows everyone in the room to see the image, I do think though that the appraiser will look at the JPG file on screen rather than looking through the actual prints.

Quick question does the appraiser get the JPG's of the prints as well as the prints?

Peter

I have all the images and therefore to get consistency, if agreed, I would suggest that I could load the images into a directory within the MCCC Flickr site. I'll speak to the exec and get their feedback.

Steven

Ian got all of the prints in digital format, although I forgot to add a couple. It is possible to put a digital frame round each image to replicate that on the print. I have already created an action to do this with some of my images and again I'll discuss it with exec.

Finally, just a big thank you to Ian, despite his dislike for cats, for doing the appraisal. I did not envy him before and even less now.

Jim
