From Appraisal 1 feedback, Ian mentioned on a few images, mine included about White Balance. Perhaps a subject could be how to use exposure and how to use the White Balance in the camera. Is this something a lot of folk could use?

I think it would be good to have workshops on things like white balance/exposure etc.

 Smiley

This is one of the things I picked up on last night. I reckon Ian mentioned it at least a dozen times.  I've only been brave enough to change the white balance on two occasions so if someone can tell me more about it, so much the better. I'm in!

Remember, if you shoot in raw, you can change the colour balance on the computer. I think.

I always shoot in RAW and have the WB set to Auto. I have from time to time flicked it to the other settings.

Willie you are becoming a sad old so and so - RAW indeed - yes it is cold out!

White Balance

Yes we could run courses on this - however please remember that most cameras - when set to Auto White Balance - get it right most of the time.
White Balance really comes into its own as being an issue if you have several prints taken in the same location with changing lighting conditions. This can be an issue in Scotland where we can get three seasons in one day!!!!

My advice - always shoot RAW if your camera is capable of shooting in RAW. In the software you can then change the white balance to see what suits you best.
If you shoot jpeg - then change the white balance to suit the conditions you are in - Daylight/Cloudy/ etc etc.
If in doubt - buy a grey card - include this in the scene you are shooting and then select the grey card in your software to ensure you have a correct white balance.
If you are really brave, and have the time, do a custom white balance.
Please don't over complicate your photography - just keep taking pictures!!!!!!

Kindest Regards

George
