Hi Fred,
I would like to go, as well as helping with the instruction.
If the weather is like last year - dress warmly. Bring a tripod for your camera, and a release cable and a flashlight. A wide angle lens is a good choice.
Any compact camera will also work fine as we saw with Rachel's tiny compact camera last year. If anybody needs a tripod, just post it here.
I will be going for arrival around 1pm, with plenty of time to walk all around, and scout locations for a sunset as well as the magic hour - as dicussed by Dimitri in his talk last Wednesday. If you would like to join me - feel free - we can then meet up with the main group at 3:30 pm. Some Gradient Neutral Density Filters will come in handy here. I'll do a demo on Wednesday (What's in my Camera Bag and Why) Night for those who have not seen them before.
Last years PostIt should be a great opportunity to do some night photography, and on the squinty bridge you can try your hand at car light trails under the purple lit arch.
Long exposures are the norm, and you are better off putting your camera in manual mode and adjusting the shutter and f-stops yourself. Expect exposures at around 10 seconds at f/16
or the equivalent. So a tripod is a must. Practicing this in the light is a lot easier than in the dark, so I suggest you give it a go and practice adjusting the settings on your camera before the night shoot (dare I say - "read your manual on how to do this"). A small flashlight will come in very handy, and if you have one, a wide angle lens is also a good idea.
Dress warm, as it can get very chilly doing night photography in December. If you have an MCCC ID card please wear them. We will also have 10 walkie talkies to share. If you also have any please bring them along. Please meet at the BBC Scotland Building in front of, or in the coffee shop (Clyde - South Shore). The car park is open 24 hours - GBP 3.00, you can get a parking token as you leave. Address - 40 Pacific Quay, Glasgow G51 1DA (for your sat nav).
See you all there!
