Hi Everybody,

Just to let you all know that we are planning a trip to Glasgow's waterfront (squinty bridge ) to do a photography night session on Sunday 20th November 2011 and meeting at the BBC and Science Centre Buildings car park around 3.30 to 4 PM (dark about 4.30)

I would hope that we can arrange for car sharing. Before I go into the why’s and wherefores of this type of night photography, I need to establish the amount of interest from members. I have picked a Sunday late afternoon  to give club member who work a chance to take part and allow enough time to arrive in daylight to set up. I would think that the session would end around 7 to 7.30 pm – I have also checked that there is no football matches on this date in Glasgow. The only thing I cannot check is the weather conditions on the night.

To allow me to take this forward, please can you enter the following information below.

1) Your name – Only your first name and the first letter of your surname e.g Fred R.

2) Say if you require Transport

3) Say if you have spare seats and if so how many

4) If you are willing to give instruction and help to other member's.

I will publish details on equipment and the basics close to the date. – If you have any questions either enter below or email me at chairman@mccc.org.uk

Thanks
Fred

Hi Fred,

I would like to go, as well as helping with the instruction.

If the weather is like last year - dress warmly. Bring a tripod for your camera, and a release cable and a flashlight. A wide angle lens is a good choice.

Any compact camera will also work fine as we saw with Rachel's tiny compact camera last year. If anybody needs a tripod, just post it here.

I will be going for arrival around 1pm, with plenty of time to walk all around, and scout locations for a sunset as well as the magic hour - as dicussed by Dimitri in his talk last Wednesday. If you would like to join me - feel free - we can then meet up with the main group at 3:30 pm. Some Gradient Neutral Density Filters will come in handy here. I'll do a demo on Wednesday (What's in my Camera Bag and Why) Night for those who have not seen them before.

Last years Post

It should be a great opportunity to do some night photography, and on the squinty bridge you can try your hand at car light trails under the purple lit arch.

Long exposures are the norm, and you are better off putting your camera in manual mode and adjusting the shutter and f-stops yourself. Expect exposures at around 10 seconds at f/16
or the equivalent. So a tripod is a must. Practicing this in the light is a lot easier than in the dark, so I suggest you give it a go and practice adjusting the settings on your camera before the night shoot (dare I say - "read your manual on how to do this"). A small flashlight will come in very handy, and if you have one, a wide angle lens is also a good idea.

Dress warm, as it can get very chilly doing night photography in December. If you have an MCCC ID card please wear them. We will also have 10 walkie talkies to share. If you also have any please bring them along. Please meet at the BBC Scotland Building in front of, or in the coffee shop (Clyde - South Shore). The car park is open 24 hours - GBP 3.00, you can get a parking token as you leave. Address - 40 Pacific Quay, Glasgow G51 1DA (for your sat nav).

See you all there!

Best,

Willie

No trees were destroyed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

I usually enjoy this type of work so please count me in. ( +1, I think Caitlin will enjoy it too)

Happy to contribute to fuel if we take a lift, but don't mind bringing our car at all if the numbers demand it (3 spare seats)

It's a good excuse to get a Christmas present tripod 1 month early  Wink

Thanks
Chris

I should be able to go to that evening, Blair included. I might have a spare seat and I'm quite happy to offer any advice or tips if asked  Grin

Hi Fred

also sorry for late reply - I would like to go - I see Ian Gidney has space in his car so if possible would be really happy if I could get a lift - I'm a bit directionally challenged.  Is it still possible to go - Margaret

 Smiley

I'm another last minuter! I'll probably be going and will have space in the car for 2/3. I'll be at the hall about 3:00 - 3:15.
It's definitely weather dependent though - if it's chucking it down (or likely to) I won't be there.
