Studio (Flash) Nights - Dec 14th, Feb 8th, and March 14th
Hi All,
In planning for the Studio Nights this year, the executive committee has realised that with the increased number of members in the club now, it is not possible to have all the members participate at the same time. There is just not enough space, and with so many members, there would not be enough time to let everyone have a fair go at taking pictures.
Instead I would like to break it down into 3 or 4 nights, with roughly 12 members participating each night. The levels and topics will be matched to the 3 appraisal sections that we have in the club -
Beginner,
Intermediate and
Advanced.
BeginnersThe Beginners, especially the new members will most likely not have experienced a Studio (from the photographer's viewpoint), and not likely have a knowledge of what's involved, so the emphasis will be on what is the equipment, why it is used, setting it up, and adjusting the (3) lights for a simple portrait. Working with a DSLR camera, attaching a wireless trigger, and what manual settings to use. With a demo of how to take pictures of a “model” and a reasonable amount of hands on time for those wanting to give it a try. A DSLR camera will be provided for those members that do not own one.
IntermediateThe Intermediate members of the club have more than likely been to several Studio Sessions (we did 2 nights and a full Saturday session last year). So a balanced emphasis between equipment, setting up, lighting, camera, metering - and taking images of a “model”. This section will be expected to be able to manually set their cameras to a 1/60th sec and to the correct f/stop (this will be determined on the night), as well as adjusting the ISO (sensitivity) of the camera to either 100 or 200 ISO, and making sure the hot shoe is active (for bridge cameras) - in advance of the night.
AdvancedLike the Intermediate section members in the advanced section will have attended several studio sessions, so less emphasis on setting up, (the equipment will already be in place), and more emphasis on metering, different methods of lighting the subject, and working with the “model", plus lots more time for each member to take images themselves (one at a time!). Again like the previous section, they will be expected to be able to manually set their cameras to a 1/60th sec and to the correct f/stop (this will be determined on the night), as well as adjusting the ISO (sensitivity) of the camera to either 100 or 200 ISO, and making sure the hot shoe is active (for bridge cameras) - in advance of the night.
GeneralFor all the sections we will only be using 1 camera and trigger at a time, by the member who is taking the images.
If there is more that 12 interested members from each section, then a subsequent night will be chosen (tentatively, another night other than a Wednesday club night).
If you feel that you should attend a different section that the one you are currently in, then let us know and we will arrange this.
There will be other topics/discussions/activities for those that are not attending the Studio Night, downstairs in the 2 rooms.
We will also need volunteers to bring up the equipment from downstairs, and help get the backdrops in place well before 7:30pm. And similarly putting the equipment away.
It will have to be on a first come first served basis. So please indicate that you would like to attend, and what section you are in. Please do not post a reply to tell us that you cannot make it, or would not like to attend. If you cannot sign in to the Forum, send an email to
willie@mccc.org.uk and I will put you on the list.
Studio (Flash) Night 1 - Beginner Section - December 14th
Studio (Flash) Night 2 - Intermediate Section - February 8th
Studio (Flash) Night 3 - Advanced Section - March 14th
Many thanks,
Willie
