We were very lucky to have Kirk Norbury, an English landscape and portrait photographer based in Ayr, visit the club this week. Kirk is inspired by Ansell Adams and follows the same intention, to present – through the medium of photography – intuitive observations of the natural world which may have meaning to the spectators.

His images come from travelling across the UK photographing all aspects of nature and wildlife with his camera, but he had many images from Iceland, which he has visited many times. He not only presented his images, but gave the members the benefit of the thinking behind them, which was very much appreciated. All the images he presented were inspiring and he talked the members through what he had hoped to achieve from the composition answering any questions on settings and the technical aspects of the shots.

He then covered a love of his, time-lapse photography, where he takes many images, sometimes up to 400, and then turns them into a time-lapse video with software. He has had this used commercially in the Ray Mears TV series Wilderness Walks.

He would be welcome back at the club for another inspiring presentation.
