Season 2025-2026 Syllabus

September 10th - Opening Night

Welcome back to members old and new. Catch up with members on what they have been up to since the end of last season. Celebrate success with the presentation of last year’s trophies and find out what’s going on during the coming season. Also, tonight a chance for members to vote for last years Print Image of the Year held over since last season.

September 17th - Heather Kerr

A big welcome to a new visitor to the club, Heather Kerr, who will entertain us with information and imags about 'How to go on Safari' and 'Out of Africa' images.

​​

September 24th - Still Life Night

A chance to use he club's flash equipment and produce an image for Appraisal 1 which is in a few weeks time.  Bring along your camera and tripod and a still life set up if you can.

​

October 1st - PAGB Night

A number of the club members entered the PAGB awards day earlier in the year and this is a chance to view their images and her about their experience of entering for this award.

October 8th - Paul McDougall

A big welcome to another new visitor to the club, Paul McDougall, who will give us an entertaining talk on his wildlife images.  He is also the author of a best selling book.  Ultimate Beginners Guide to Wildlife Photography: From Taking a Shot to Capturing a Moment.

October 15th - Appraisal No 1

The first appraisal of the new session and a welcome back to Ron Bell LRPS   Galashiels Camera Club.  There is a new feature which has been introduced this session.  Members must submit one of their pdi images on a set subject.  The set subject for Appraisal 1 is  'Still Life'.  All the other images are OPEN.

October 22nd - Scavenger Hunt

This is a chance to see other members efforts at capturing the ten subjects set for this year's Scavenger Hunt.  Please name your images as follows:  Category Number...eg 01 underscore then your title (NOT the category as your title please)     

So ............01_Your own title                 This makes it easier to sort images on the night
 

October 29th - Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts

Something a little bit different tonight.  We have arranged a visit to Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts Club to do some portraiture of their students using the club's extensive collection of studio flash equipment.

November 5th - Members Night 50 : 50

Another evening of learning from your fellow members.  Two members will present images and give tips on how they created the images and hopefully inspire us to create that perfect image.

November 12th - Ken Dow

Another new visitor to the club, Ken Dow, will show us his best shots from The Languedoc and Camargue

​ areas of France.  He will have some prints to view during the tea break. The talk will illustrate why Ken is drawn back to those areas of France.  Ken is on the Executive Committee of SPF and is a pretty good photographer.

November 19th - Members 50 : 50 Night

Another opportunity for two members to share the images they have taken on a variety of themes that interest them and hopefully will inspire other club members.

November 25th - Appraisal No 2

The second appraisal of the year and again you have to remember that one of the pdis is on a set subject....which for Appraisal 2 is 'Close Up'.. Casting his eye over our images for this appraisal is Brian Mercer.  However, it may be that this appraisal will be carried out on the night using Zoom.

​

December 3rd - Match A Slide Night

After last year’s success another “Match A Slide“ night.   Two teams of members will try and out match the other with their unusual choice of subject.  Always an enjoyable evening and the team Captains and teams will be announced before the evening.

December 10th - Social Night

Enjoy an evening just socialising with other club members  before the Christmas Break.

January 7th - Christmas Social

A chance to welcome in the New Year with club members over a meal and probably a drink or two.

​

January 14th - Outside Image Shoot 

An opportunity to try out shooting images outdoors.  The plan is to have some cool cars to take images of using our studio lighting kit.  Weather permitting so it may require to swap nights for this one.

​

January 21st - Members 50 : 50 Night

This evening will be a practical session of some description which will help to develop skills in either creating images or learning about printing them.

​

January 28th - Appraisal No 3

Shona Perks founder of My Beautiful Scotland is our visitor tonight. Shona focus’s on seascapes and ICM images.

February 4th - Members Night

Third Appraisal of the session and the only one with a set subject. Once again, we have decided to set the theme as

“ MONOCHROME “ with the added challenge that one of the pdi images should be Architecture.  Judging our images this evening is Clive Watkins ARPS.    

 

February 11th - Fun with LED Lights

Tonight we will be having some fun with LED light painting in the company of Judy, a professional fire dancer and LED light performer.  An opportunity to capture some images which are a little different.

February 18th - Members Night

Tonight we welcome Roy Robertson FRPS Hon SPF from Fife to show us his images from Iceland.

​

February 25th - Inter Club Competition:  MCCC versus Blackridge CC

Tonight we are hosting our friends from Armadale Camera Club and Blackridge Camera Club for a new inter club challenge for the Robin Drysdale Trophy.  The images will be from the LANDSCAPE genre and will be appraised by David Spinks.

​

March 4th - Member's Night

Another night that may involve exhibition preparation, if not then members will be asked to present some of their work to the other members and give tips and hints on how they were captured.​

​

March 11th - Appraisal No 4

Tonight the club's best photographer will be revealed after the scores from Appraisal 4 are counted up.  One of the pdi images must be a 'Natural Portrait'.

​

March 18th - SPF Summer Portfolio Competition              

The club entered last summer's SPF Portfolio competition.  Tonight we will be viewing all the best images, including a number from club members..

​

March 25th - David Moyes

Award winning photographer David Moyes will present his style of architectural photography along with some of his seascape images as well.

​

April 1st  - Chris Bate

Another new face at the club. Chris Bate will show us his AV sequences from in and around Scotland.

​

April 8th - West Lothian Inter Club Competition

Can Mid Calder recapture the West Lothian Trophy from Livingston or can Blackridge Camera Club take the Trophy.

​

April 15th - The Portfolio and Equaliser Competitions

These are two digitial only competitions that are open to all members.

​

The Equaliser Competition held in memory of former member, Alpin Ross-Smith, is for ONE IMAGE on a subject to be confirmed by the Committee.  The Portfolio Competition, which is 4 images on a them of the photographer's choosing.

 

​April 22nd - Image of the Year

Come along and see all he best images from the club's appraisals. Whose images will be judged image of the year?

April 29th - AGM

​

Are you happy or unhappy with the way the club is run?  Come along and make your views known - or even better - volunteer to join or help the Committee.
